The Xaositects are a faction who believe that the multiverse's true nature is chaos; only by embracing that chaos can you truly understand it.
History[]
- 24 BFHR: The Xaositects arrive in Sigil, but it may not have been the first time. Records show plenty of similar groups: Xaosophiles, Discordant Opposition, Ochlocrats, and dozens more. They may have all been previous names used by the Xaositects, or they may all have been different organizations. It's tough to tell because the Chaosmen aren't exactly great at keep records.[1]
- 107 YFHR: A group of Xaositects enter the Lady's Ward and mess with some manor courtyards. Some owners wake up to razed grounds, while others have gorgeous new rock gardens.[1]
- 117 YFHR: The Xaositects manage to arrange an alliance with every other faction at once. The alliance only lasts about 12 minutes once everyone figures out what's going on.[1]
- 125 YFHR: The Xaositects collectively act "normal" for about a week. It weirded out Cagers who wondered what they were up to. Turns out nothing, it just worked out that way.[2]
- 127 YFHR: The Xaositects paint a mural on an exterior wall of the Great Gymnasium. It's widely considered one of the most beautiful works of art in the planes.[1]

Role[]
Membership[]
Entrance to the Xaositects varies wildly, but generally requires a sponsor from within the faction. Sometimes all you need to do is ask the sponsor, sometimes they provide a test, or an interview, or forms to fill out. Sometimes what the sponsor wants is not compliance, but refusal.
Namers start out by wearing the faction symbol, a sign to others that they want to get in on any bright ideas other Chaosmen have. They typically cause chaos and act barmy. They try to be chaos, rather than try to be part of it.
Benefits: Xaositects gain the ability to use babble (the reverse of the wizard spell tongues) 1/week. All Chaosmen also use scramblespeak, although how naturally it comes to them is based on how immersed they are in the faction's beliefs. They also know where the multiverse keeps everything: if someone suddenly asks them the location of a lost object, the DM rolls a Wisdom check. If successful, the Xaositect will know its location (although may not necessarily want to share).
Factotums among the Xaositects are (sometimes) called a boss. In order to become one, a namer must win the acceptance of other bosses. And naturally, that method varies. Typically it's when a namer manages to rope in other bosses with their latest wild idea. Bosses often have their own small groups of followers.
Benefits: Bosses of 5th level or higher gain nondetection from spells cast by lawful wizards and priests. At 9th level, they radiate confusion 1/day, with lawful targets in the area receiving -2 to saving throws.
Known Bosses:
Factors are big bosses. Like bosses, they rope others into their schemes, but to more dramatic effect, gathering bigger groups, or being able to convince bosses to gather their own groups together for a larger job. There are maybe a half-dozen big bosses at any given time.

Background Information[]
- Just as the Xaositects (may) have used different names in the past, it's possible that the Hands of Havoc are just the newest incarnation of the same faction.
