The Sons of Mercy are a faction who hold that the multiverse is a naturally orderly place. Disorder largely comes from outside influences, so those who stray from the law aren't always at fault and can mostly be rehabilitated. Execution is a last resort for those who have no hope of resisting corrupting influences.
History[]
The Sons of Mercy were originally one of the city's 50 factions before the Great Upheaval, but that event forced them to ally with another faction, the Sodkillers, forming the Mercykillers.
The new faction lasted over 600 years, until the Faction War in 130 YFHR, which split the faction back along the same ideological lines.
The Sons of Mercy remain the most faction-like organization in Sigil, possibly because they were founded in the aftermath of the War, although technically they do not present themselves that way while within the city. They inherited management of the Prison from their Mercykiller predecessors, and attempt to replace the Harmonium as the de facto police. Unfortunately they have no real authority, so they're not always respected.
