The Society of Sensation are a faction who believe that the multiverse only exists through the senses, and thus the only way to understand it is to experience as much of it as possible.
History[]
Philosophy[]
To know the multiverse, experience it fully. The senses form the path to truth, for the multiverse doesn't exist beyond what can be sensed.
Role[]
The Sensates are responsible for the Civic Festhall, the largest entertainment center in Sigil. They host galleries, classes, stage plays, music performances, and more.
Membership[]
The Sensates have a fairly open policy for membership, with no up-front requirement other than a genuine desire to experience the multiverse.
However, Annali Webspinner will direct applicants to a factotums who will administer a test to filter out curiosity-seeker: they must record five novel experiences on recorder stones, each of which focuses on one of the five senses (or alternately, one single experience that has strong elements from each of the five). If the factotum believes the experiences creative enough, they're admitted into the faction.
Most who fail the test will leave to accumulate more experiences, and return to try again.
Benefits: All Sensates gain infravision to 60', and +1 bonuses to saves vs. poison and rolls for surprise. New characters begin with three times normal starting money as a "signing bonus." All Sensates have a 10% chance to know if they're being lied to, 20% if the target is the same species as the Sensate.
Namers with particular value and intensity are brought into the ranks of the factotums by existing senior factotums.
Benefits: At 3rd level or above, factotums may perform a sensory touch 1/day to transfer 1d10 damage from the target to the Sensate. At 5th level or above, Sensates can use a bard's local history proficiency and identification abilities as 1st level bards.

Background Information[]
- The DiTerlizzi illustration of Factol Erin in the Player's Guide to the Planes has her holding a rod, with the faction symbol at the tip. However, it appears to be a different version of the symbol, with a face looking to the left instead of tilted back. This may be an early version of the faction symbol, changed before final release.
