Background Information[]
- Although the scant Planescape material in 3rd and 4th seemed to follow on the same timeline as 2nd Edition, it's uncertain where 5e's Adventures in the Multiverse fits into the timeline, if anywhere. It may be a reboot, or given how many plane-shaking events happen during the life of Dungeons & Dragons, there may be reality-alteration at play.
- Evidence indicating a continued timeline:
- The Mind's Eye faction: it came into existence as a result of the Faction War. The text even indicates it's the result of a merging of two previous factions.
- Jeremo the Natterer (Planescape: In the Cage: A Guide to Sigil ) claims he wants to bring the Ring-Givers into Sigil as a full faction, with plans to take over from Factol Ingwe. Here, the Ring-Givers are a minor faction, with Jeremo listed as factol. His earlier headquarters, the Palace of the Jester, is mentioned as having been sold by the Ring-Givers.
- The Tower Sorcerous has recently returned to Sigil.
- The Grixitt (Planescape: Uncaged: Faces of Sigil ) has been captured and imprisoned.
- The events of Turn of Fortune's Wheel are a direct result of the events of the 2e Planescape: The Great Modron March adventure.
- Evidence indicating a reboot of some sort:
- The factions are in Sigil with no suggestion that they were ever kicked out. Factions and factols may have returned, but even factols who were killed in the Faction War (e.g. Hashkar) are back.
- The structure of many faction headquarters is inconsistent with their original appearance.
- Morte Rictusgrin appears in the Turn of Fortune's Wheel, evidently waiting for someone in the Mortuary, suggesting it takes place before the events of Torment: Planescape: Torment . Torment takes place in 125 YFHR, just before 2nd Edition's books.
- Evidence indicating a continued timeline:
