Outer Planes is a collective term used to describe a subset of the known planes of existence in various cosmology models. The term refers to the placement of the planes being the outermost concentric sphere that made up the multiverse in the Great Wheel cosmology model.[1] The term continued to be used in the World Tree cosmology model but referred to a different set of planes.
The Outer Planes are planes of belief made manifest. While the Inner Planes are the origins of matter, the Prime Material Plane is mixed matter with the essence of life, the Outer Planes are planes of thought and belief. The realms are roughly divided in terms of alignment -- good, neutral, evil; lawful, conflict, chaos -- and are the realms in which the gods (and other god-like beings) reside, as well as entities which fully represent an ideal: fiends, angels, modrons, and more.
