The Harmonium are a faction who believe in uniting the multiverse in harmony. Having different opinions from your neighbor means discord, so it's best if everyone thinks the same way. By force, if necessary.
History[]
The Harmonium began in 374 BFHR as an adventuring party on the Prime world of Ortho, setting a goal to "rid the country of chaos and bring peace to the land." Unlike most such parties, they actually did it. Gradually, they would bring peace to the entire world (whether it wanted it or not). Occasionally chaos would rampage across the land, and they tracked these to demonic incursions from the Outer Planes. [1] Once they discovered the Outer Planes, it wasn't long before they found their way to Sigil.[2]
- 74 BFHR: The Harmonium arrive in Sigil at approximately this time.[1]
- 77 YFHR: Omar becomes factol of the Harmonium... and immediately tries to disband the faction and shut down the City Barracks. Omar is revealed to be an Anarchist. The Harmonium later insists they simply let him think he was in charge so he'd reveal himself. The Mercykillers execute him after a brief trial, and he becomes a hero and martyr for the Anarchists.[3]
- 107 YFHR: Sarin arrives in Sigil around this time.[4]
- 122 YFHR: Sarin becomes factol of the Harmonium around this time.[5]
- The loss of Namausus to Mechanus seems to have happened relatively recently -- within the last decade or so -- but details are unknown.
- 127 YFHR: An attempt to have Fortitude slide into Arcadia goes awry, nearly ending with the city falling into Baator.[6]
Previous factols:
- Unnamed factol (killed by a Xaositect hourglass, not long after the faction arrived in Sigil)[7]
Philosophy[]
Peace is our goal. But if it takes a little war to get others to se things the Harmonium way, so be it. That's how we'll reach our golden harmony.
Branches[]
Not all the people of Ortho embraced the Harmonium ethos. The dissenters called themselves the Riven. Rather than commit genocide, the Harmonium offered the Riven exile, an offer which was accepted. The Riven traveled to the Elemental Plane of Air where they established a community called Blurophil on a massive metal disk.[8]
Role[]
The Hardheads run the City Barracks.
Membership[]
Namers who have completed basic training at the Harmonium camp on Buxenus become Notaries. Notaries fall into five ranks, based on length of service. Those fresh out of training are Notary Ones, while those who have been around a while are Notary Fives.
- Benefits: All Hardheads can use charm person 1/day. Priests gain access to dictate as a 2nd level spell.
Every six months, any Notary who decides to become an officer receives advanced training, with graduates becoming Measures. Like Notaries, they rank from Measure Ones to Measure Fives.
- Benefits: Measures at 4th level gain a +1 bonus to attack with a weapon of their choice.
Known Measures:
Factors are known as Movers. Movers will select a new member to join their ranks from among the Measure Fives. As with Notaries and Measures, Movers have five sub-ranks.
- Benefits: At 7th level, Movers gain a +3 bonus to saves against fear or emotion-related spells and abilities. Mover Fours and Fives of at least 10th level gain the spell dictate 1/day, a stronger version of command.
Known Movers:
The factol is known internally as the Composer, as they direct the rest of the faction. When the current factol steps down, a Mover Five takes their place, and they promote a Mover Four to take their vacated role.
