A factotum (or less commonly, "faction-man") is a full-time member of a faction, what happens when a namer moves up their involvement. Many Cagers consider them half-tout, half street preacher. There's a certain amount of truth to this, but their roles are far more diverse. They may be guides, soldiers, enforcers, scholars, and diplomats, but they do so at direction of, and in service to, the faction.
Generally factions never have enough factotums: they're always on the lookout for more namers to devote themselves fully to the faction. Due to this lack, many factions will hire adventurers to perform factotum duties, although of course they prefer to hire adventurers who are already members of their faction.
Those factotums who prove themselves worthy may move up the ranks further and become a factor.
