The Expansionists were a faction that ruled in Sigil a thousand years ago. They believed that power was universal, and all things trended toward growth and improvement. The encouragement for people to be the best version of themselves they could be made them one of the most popular factions in Sigil.

History[]

In 874 BFHR, in a meeting in the catacombs beneath Sigil, twelve of the city's factols met to beg the Lady of Pain to deal with the Expansionists.[1][2][3]

Shortly after, during a planning session for expanding his influence, Expansionist factol Vartus Timlin went for a walk to clear his head and was never seen again, having been sent to the Mazes.

The faction dissolved, with many members gravitating to the Believers of the Source or the Fated. All written references to the faction were stricken from the Rare and Dangerous Volumes Vault of the Hall of Records. Only one member still exists.

Rumors persist that Timlin has somehow escaped his Maze and is plotting his return to Sigil, and his revenge.

Philosophy[]

The Expansionists believed power could be found anywhere, of all kinds, if only one was willing to harness it. All things trended towards improvement, so it was everyone's duty to improve themselves as much as possible. Many people took this self-help-guru advice and used it to become better people, the best versions of themselves. Unfortunately it also attracted a lot of thugs and brawlers, drawn to Timlin's force of personality and the promise of strength.

Eventually, Timlin's next step was enlarging the faction's influence to cover the entire city, including deposing the Lady of Pain. The other factions took exception to this, and hearing their cries for help, the Lady of Pain evidently agreed.

Role[]

Membership[]

As a long-dead faction, the Expansionists are no longer accepting new members. The previous criteria for joining is unknown.

Only one member of the faction still exists: the Grixitt, a mysterious creature who destroys the city's portals in retribution for the Lady's "crimes" against Timlin.
