The Doomguard are a faction who believe the multiverse is falling apart. It's supposed to fall apart. That's the natural order of things. That's entropy. Of course, a lot of deluded berks are trying to stop it, or at least slow it. The Doomguard want to stop them, and perhaps even hasten the course of entropy.
History[]
- 471 BFHR: The Doomguard start stockpiling weapons in the Armory to wage war in the streets of Sigil.[1]
- 21 BFHR: The Doomguard start stockpiling spheres of annihilation with the hopes to one day use them as tools of entropy.[2]
- 122 YFHR: Pentar becomes factol of the Doomguard around this time.[3]
Previous factols
- Unnamed factol (immediately previous to Pentar, died in a slave uprising he sparked)[3]
Philosophy[]
Entropy is ecstasy; decay is divine. The multiverse is supposed to fall apart. We're just here to keep leatherheads from interfering.
Role[]
As they want to encourage the eventual destruction of the multiverse, the Doomguard are in charge of Sigil's Armory, a building full of weapons with which to hasten the end.
Membership[]
The Sinkers don't really recognize much of a hierarchy (at least at lower levels) other than one's dedication to entropy: those who push hard for it, those who want to let the multiverse take its course, and those who want to slow down any progression. The first group are the most powerful force within the faction.
The most powerful and ruthless Sinkers are its factors, called Doomlords. Doomlords are subjected to an unspeakable transformation in the Negative Energy plane, and return wearing black-and-red masks. Doomlords sometimes create "champions of entropy", who are often given entropy blades, weapons forged to act against a specific threat to entropy. Once that threat has been defeated, the blade crumbles to dust.
There are many lesser Doomlords, but only four greater Doomlords, each of which is tied to a negative quasi-elemental plane, and largely oversees one of the faction's four Citadels.
Known Doomlords:
- Devland, Greater Doomlord of Ash
- Nagaul, Greater Doomlord of Vacuum
- Roth, Greater Doomlord of Salt
- Pereid, Greater Doomlord of Dust
