Description[]

Aoskar is described as a "planar power"[1], suggesting that while most powers' worshippers are primarily from a prime world, Aoskar's worshippers were mostly found in the planes.

History[]

At his peak, Aoskar claimed half the planewalkers in Sigil among his worshippers. By all appearances, his power was growing, and he may have stood a chance to claim the entire city. However, the Lady of Pain did nothing.

It's only when one of her dabus declared himself a priest of Aoskar that the Lady acted.

The dabus in question was exiled. Shunned by other dabus, barred from official duties, consigned to walk the ground instead of floating above it. Considering him a "fallen" dabus, Cagers named him Fell (Px/ dabus/07/SO/N).[2][3]

Aoskar's temple in Sigil's Lower Ward, the Great Temple of Doors[2][3], was destroyed, becoming the landmark known to modern Cagers as the Shattered Temple.[4][5][6] Aoskar's image was stricken from the Cage. Aoskar was killed by the Lady, his withered husk consigned to float in the Astral Plane.[2][7][8][9][10]

The name is rarely uttered, and when it is, it's often used as a curse. The punishment for worshipping Aoskar is death. Although, since Fell was spared by the Lady, most are too afraid of her ire to risk extending the punishment to him.

On the day Aoskar died, four portals vanished. They reappear for a brief period only once every 500 years, leading some to call them "blinks." No one's sure if the blinks are the Lady's doing or if the portals were Aoskar's dying act, or what the reason either would have to do this in any case.[10]

In recent years, the Sign of One — particularly the Will of the One subsect — raised Aoskar as a potential candidate for a god to resurrect through the power of their belief, to convince everyone of the correctness of their philosophy.[11][12][2][3][13][14][15]

Rumors & Legends[]

  • Some say that Cagers started revering the Lady of Pain as one of Aoskar's aspects.[16]
  • Wooly Cupgrass (Pl/ b/07/S2/CN) is searching for some of Aoskar's blood, having heard a rumor that it functions as a multiversal gate key.[17]
  • Djhek'nlarr (Pl/ gy/F7,M4/FL/LE) sells figurines of Aoskar to primes. Though not enough to earn the Lady's ire, it's punishably by two years' hard labor.[18]
  • Some say that Aoskar will only stay dead as long as there's no god in the Cage. If people start worshipping the Lady — making her a power — Aoskar would be able to return.[19]

Appendix[]

  • Priests of Aoskar had a sacred tongue of their own. In this language, "athaon" meant "godless." Athaon was later adopted by the Athar as a term for their factotums.[20]
